Strategies to feel good about yourself

Wake up happy. Begin each day with a fun routine. Listen to your favourite tape.

Never compare yourself with others; try to improve on your own past performance.

Think about events which give you pleasure or a sense of achievement, and plan some.

Write down 10 things you are good at. It will help you remember you are not useless.

Rethink your "mistakes" as lessons learnt which will help you prevent future ones.

When you reach an objective, allow for a period of celebration before going on to the next goal.

Keep a diary to affirm your positive thoughts and feelings.

Spend time with a friend who cares about you and lets you know it.

Give yourself a pep talk: encourage yourself, just as you would encourage your best friend or as he/she would encourage you.

Learn a new skill such as dancing, skating or karate. Learning the basics will give you a taste of success.

Make a collage of pictures of things you want to have (a skateboard, a car, a cat... Adina's smile :o)) and things you want to do in life (travel, learn tennis, do charity work). Pin it on the wall of your room.

Even if you are not feeling confident, act as if you are. Soon you will realize you are no longer faking it.
